Band Diary

Hopefully, every week one of us will contribute a few lines on this page, sharing the bands mood, laughs and ideas.

JED says - Good practice, wrote at least 3 new tunes, including the set closer, Mr B, which Tony wrote the music for, but wasn't impressed with........until we gave it the FRANTIC! touch.
Sat 05/08/06

JED says - another good practice, not the best, but nerves had a lot to do with it and exploding gear!!!
2 brand new tunes, both available for download and a photo shoot along the canal.
Sat 12/08/06

Jed says, Practice cancelled, recording and bonding session booked instead, spent all day laughing and recording.

18&19/08/06

Jed says,
spent last night and tonight working on the set, and although towards the end, we were getting tired, we never lost the desire and commitment to get it just right.
We are gonna have an amazing gig on thursday........see you there!!!!!!

GRAHAM says - The lyrics to Mr B should have Franatics talking about the meaning of the song for years to come! I was happy with the practice session overall and my vocals specifically, particularly on Feelin' Alright where I experimented with lifting the vocals for a couple of lines before each chorus (see video on the Videos page). I got a bit worried when my throat muscles spasmed during Rock River Lady. This is the second time this has happened during that song. I must learn to relax my vocal chords in-between choruses. I'm really looking forward to live gigs now but not in having to learn all the lyrics! :-(
GRAHAM says - Sure the nerves were showing this weekend but I have confidence in my band mates to get it right on the night! Considering we added 2 brand new songs - Stop, Don't Go! and The Girl Next Door - to a set of 9 I thought we did very well. I got really tired towards the end of the session and it affected my voice quite badly. It's made me rethink the order of the set, I think I'd like the shouty screamy songs separated if at all possible! The Girl Next Door is quite a light, poppy kinda song but I like it and I feel it will only help to broaden our fanbase.
GRAHAM says - The pub was unavailable for us to use this weekend but Nat couldn't make it anyway so we met up at Tony's and recorded a good version of Round and Round. The intention is to create a 4-track demo disc and to hand copies out to A&R men, producers, organisers etc. We may also be able to produce discs to sell at gigs, so look out for that all you Franatics!
We all agreed that the break has probably done us more good than harm. However, with just over a week to go before our debut we plan to have at least two practice session next weekend. On a personal level, I am confident things will go well on the night. I spent a good portion of the weekend memorising the lyrics to the songs in the set and I am there or thereabouts with them now... *touch wood* LOL

A huge thankyou, to those thar came to see us and a big thankyou to 'the Savants', 'End of Season' and Smith

MR. B.
Then we got to do an encore and after a quick discussion, settled on American Flags, once again......
The videos are uploaded and you can find them on the video page, I apologuise for the sound, but, please don't let that put you off!!!!
Anyway, we went down a storm, people telling us how much they enjoyed the show, if you can make Todd......get there!!!!!!

A new song called 'some people'.....and we've reworked 'the girl next door'........much better.
Sat 02/09/06

practice, cheshire ring

a good practice, another 3 new songs and a new cover tune
we are really working to extend the setlist for the Todd gig.....
brought back the covers we had done originally and surprisingly, after a break, they sounded better than ever.

Sat 16/09/06

Last full practice before the Tod gig, added 2 new songs to the set, check them out, they are on the downloads page, gave Nat 20 posters to flypost Todmorden with, just waiting for the call to bail him out, coz he's bound to get caught......lol

20/09/06

Last practice before Tod.

Just 3 of us, tonight no Nat, so we finally have a chance to run through the accoustic set, for the Tod gig.
The songs chosen are to be performed bt Tony on his 12 string, Graham singing and Jed playing Congas, Bongos, shakers and Guitar!!!
The songs will be :-

Hide your love away - The Beatles
Working class hero - John Lennon
somrthing by the Foo Fighters
and 2 brand new compositions written by us.

All looks and sounds good for the gig. Jed has rebuilt his lights and fixed the controller, they look really good, not exactly Pink Floyd, but cool none the less.

22/09/06

The Tod gig.

OK, so tonight didn't start well......booked a van, yesterday, went to pick it up.......No van!!!
Ringing round like headless chickens, too short notice, no vans to be had anywhere.....ok, plan B.....
Load my cat to the gunnels, no room for Tony and Graham....they catch a bus, 3 buses to be exact!! and Jed sets off for Tod, followed by Supersonic, acting as roadies...we arrive at more or less the same time as Tony and Graham and proceeded to unload and set up.
Soundcheck went well, got a really good balanced sound, letting Supersonic soundcheck enabled us to hear the overall sound and it sounded good, cheers to Wayne for the loan of the PA.
the FRANATICS started to arrive and Supersonic kicked the evening off, with a spectacular performance, well done to you both!!
Frantic! then took to the stage, kicking off with PIT STOP, AMERICAN FLAGS and PAINT IT BLACK, during which Jeds high hat clutch disintegrated.....a minute was needed to find the locking screw and rebuild....then back into the fray, GET FRANTIC, I DREAM IN COLOUR and ending the first half with SOME PEOPLE.
Unfortunitly during some vigorous drumming Jed caught his glasses with the tip of a stick and the lens fell to the floor but he soldiered on.......lol......getting them fixed during the Accoustic break.
The band cut the accoustic break short, due to technical problems and went back to what they do best, loud n proud Rock and Roll!!!
Kicking off the second set with, FEELIN ALRIGHT, DONT YOU FORGET ABOUT ME, ROUND AND ROUND and GIRL NEXT DOOR, during which again, Jeds hihat cluth bit the dust, this time sending the loose screw into outer space, lost forever.......but on we played!!!!
Well not quite, a message came through Nat to Jed, that he really had to talk to an audience member, as a matter of urgency, so Jed and Graham approached the guy and got into a conversation, turns out the guy was from another band and had industry connections and wanted to offer us a place on the bill at the Hebden Bridge festival, to which we agreed, then went back to finish the set, STOP DONT GO and MR B. both went down really well and calls for more came thick and fast, So we played PIT STOP as our encore and even had people up dancing, we did earlier too, as NAT went out and formed a mosh pit!!!!
Then just as the band finished and Jed began removing cymbals, in came some very late arrivals, Hi ya Trouble!!!
Well, what could we do, Jed put the kit back together and we launched into AMERICAN FLAGS, this was awsome the best rendition we have ever played live!!!!!
We finished to a rapturous applause, Jed throwing several broken sticks out into the audience and retiring outside for some fresh air.

Wednesday 5th September 2007.

GRAHAM says....
Yes, Frantic! are back bigger and better than ever before! Not only have Jed and Nat returned like modern day prodigal sons they have also brought new boy Greg with them to help share the lead/rhythm guitar burden with Tony.
The band's first project is to work on and perfect a couple of songs Tony and I wrote just last week. Touch Me and Lead Me To The Light are dark and heavy in comparison to the lighter faster punkier songs we were producing in the last month or two but I am delighted with them. I would describe them as technically, lyrically and vocally the most mature songs we have ever written. Let's hope the other guys can do them justice!! LOL
Anyway it's good to be back as a proper band again and I look forward to the time when we can start gigging again. Until then keep up to date on our progress by regularly visiting the Frantic! fan base! ;-)
